RELEASER 2.0
PURPOSE |
Releaser 2.0 is a fully biodegradable, nonhazardous solvent release agent which has been specifically designed for difficult mixes that have a high slump and/or high concentrations of cement, superplasticiser or pigment.
OTHER BENEFITS |
Releaser 2.0 is a nonflammable release agent that will provide a safe and very pleasant working environment for your employees. Releaser 2.0 is nontoxic, has no noxious fumes, and is not irritating to the skin. This product has a flashpoint exceeding 200oF and, therefore, is not classified as a hazardous material and does not require submitting special EPA reports, as is the case for many diesel and mineral spirit form oils. Releaser 2.0 enables the precast operator to strip forms and molds with minimal spalling. Its continual use also will retard rusting of metal forms and improve waterproofing of wooden forms.
Releaser 2.0 will not impair the natural bonding characteristics of paints, plasticisers, mortars, epoxies or other concrete coatings. Releaser 2.0 is noncorrosive and will not stain your finished product. Releaser 2.0 does not contain benzene or any of the other toxic ingredients which have been reported by the National Cancer Institute to be linked to myeloid leukemia (NOTE: Diesel-based release agents contain benzene and other cancer-linked toxic chemicals in amounts up to 40%).
The following is a comparison of Releaser 2.0 versus a typical diesel-based form oil:
| Characteristic or Quality |
Releaser 2.0 | Diesel-Based Form Oil |

YES | NO |
| Minimizes concrete buildup on mixer blades | YES | Sometimes |
RECOMMENDED SPRAY EQUIPMENT |
Releaser 2.0 may be applied using portable hand-held spray equipment provided the equipment is of good quality with a relatively fine nozzle (between 0.015" and 0.020") and moderate pump pressure (up to 100 psi). Do not use spray equipment having a nozzle orifice of 0.011" or less, in combination with a pump pressure of 200 psi or greater (see Special Precautions - Section VII of MSDS). It is recommended that the sprayer have a 2 gallon pressure pot of the type manufactured by Graco, Part No. 223-840. If a pressure pot sprayer is not available, we recommend the Chapin sprayer found in the Granger catalog, Part No. 4Z122. This sprayer has a brass nozzle which is highly preferred over a plastic nozzle.
The use of small hand held "garden type" sprayers often will not produce satisfactory results as they commonly result in a coating that is not uniform and/or exceeds the recommended 1.5 mils thickness. In all cases where the equipment has been previously used it must be first prepared by cleaning thoroughly with a solvent solution and then rising using clean water.
Releaser 2.0 can also be applied using rags, brushes or rollers, provided care is taken to maintain a thin uniform coating.
MOLD PREPARATION |
When this product is used on a continual basis the only preparation needed, if any, is to occasionally clean the mold with a soft rag that has been saturated with Releaser 2.0. This will remove any concrete buildup that might have accumulated. Also if the buildup is very soft (e.g., can be displaced by lightly rubbing the mold with your finger), it should not be removed since it will aid in providing for an easy release and will be more cost effective.
Prior to using Releaser 2.0for the first time, it is strongly recommended that no abrasives (e.g., steel wool, wire brush, etc.) be used to clean the mold. However, if it is absolutely necessary to do so, or if the mold is new, it first should be seasoned before use by applying a thick film of Releaser 2.0, then exposing the mold to the atmosphere for 24 hours. This cycle should be repeated over a period of two to five days, depending on the condition of the mold and the amount of exposed metal.
APPLICATION |
Releaser 2.0 will coat approximately 1,750 sq. ft. per gallon on steel forms and 900 sq. ft. per gallon on wooden forms and performs best when applied in a manner resulting in the thinnest coat possible, preferably less than 1.5 mils.
Coating thickness can be measured via a wet film thickness gauge (calling card type) made by Paul N Gardner Company, and is available free of charge upon request. Measure the thickness by first placing the aluminum metal card in a perpendicular position to the form covered with Releaser 2.0 Then remove the card immediately and notice the indentations in the coating made by the teeth in the card. The actual mil thickness will be in between the tooth touching the film and the next tooth not touching the film. It may take a few tries to become accustomed to reading this gauge and estimating the thickness.
The most significant determinants in reducing the coating thickness are: (1) smaller nozzle orifice size, (2) faster travel speed of spray wand across the form, (3) longer residence time on the form and (4) higher atmospheric temperature and windy conditions.
Dilution with diesel oil or mineral spirits is not recommended since this will lower the release efficiency, increase the solutions toxicity and reduce the flashpoint. Any puddles in the corners or bottoms of the mold must be removed prior to pouring the concrete in the normal manner. Releaser 2.0 should be applied after each use of the form.
This product is compatible with most types of molds including some synthetic rubber molds, but not natural latex molds. However as a precaution, prior to using Releaser 2.0 on any synthetic rubber mold, it is recommended that a small piece of the mold be immersed in this product for not less than one week to determine if swelling or other problems possibly might occur. For natural latex rubber molds, we recommend only the use of Strip ALN or Natural Strip.
STORAGE AND AGITATION |
Releaser 2.0 normally does not require agitation.
Shelf life is up to 12 months when stored in a cool environment and not contaminated by foreign materials. Storing in the open under a hot sun will significantly reduce the shelf life of this product.
Although Releaser 2.0 is classified as nonflammable, care should be taken to store this product away from sparks or open flames. Empty drums must not be cut with a cutting torch.
